Abstract

This report is excerpted from the sixth UNDP-UNOPS-Italian Cooperation Report on Multilateral Human Development Programmes (2004). The Programme operates in the Provinces of Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, Mpumalanga and Limpopo (formerly Northern Province), involving 4 districts and 18 municipalities. Among its mains results there are the creation of a directorate for Local Economic Development (LED), the promotion of decentralised cooperation and Local Economic Development Agencies (LEDAs) and the creation of the Local Enterprise Development Fund (LEF), which establishes funding mechanisms for the sustainable projects of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises identified by the LEDAs.
