Abstract

This book is a collection of articles discussing the significance of housing cooperatives in Uruguay and its participatory processes and methods. Chapter 1 traces the raison d'être from a socio-political and judicial view, and the social organization and framework from which they function. Chapter 2 delineates the actors involved in the conceptual and physical building of the cooperatives. Chapter 3 discusses the impact of housing cooperatives on the current social and political reality of the communities involved, and the various programs the cooperatives offer low-income tenants.
